Official Trailer Released for ‘The Odyssey’ From Christopher Nolan

An early Christmas present just arrived this morning for film fans in the official trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey. Matt Damon leads Nolan’s mythic action epic, shot on IMAX, and now we have our first full look at it. The movie hits theaters next year on July 17th. Let the anticipation for this one commence.

This is what Universal put forth in their press release:

Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX®film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX® film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026. 

The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong’o, with Zendaya and Charlize Theron.

The Odyssey is produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan for their company, Syncopy. The executive producer is Thomas Hayslip.

It’ll be very interesting to see Christopher Nolan in this milieu. Throughout his entire career, he only told stories in a “grounded” real-world context or science fiction. The closest he’s ever come to the supernatural was The Prestige, and even then, he left the explanation for the “transported man” machine ambiguous.

This will be the first time we see him direct a movie with gods and magic and fantastical creatures from myth. It’ll be an interesting showcase for him, especially now that he’s become one of the most powerful men in Hollywood and can pretty much make whatever his heart desires.
