Hans Zimmer’s Score for ‘Dune: Part Two’ Has Been Ruled Ineligible by the Academy

The Best Original Score category at the Oscars has a history of ruling some front-running contenders ineligible during awards season. The branch is very particular about how much pre-existing music can be used in a work. Well, it seems like Hans Zimmer has run afoul of their rules with Dune: Part Two, so a decision has been made to not have it in contention this season.

According to Variety, Zimmer’s Dune: Part Two score is ineligible for Oscar consideration in Original Score. Now, he’s still in play for Blitz, so you can’t count the composer out fully. Both will be considered at other shows, too, just not the Academy Awards. So, update your predictions accordingly after this news.
