When you’re as successful an actress as Kate Winslet, being able to bring projects to the finish line is an implicit good. Lee is one such example of this, as Winslet really developed it and made sure it actually got made. Reuniting with her Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind cinematographer Ellen Kuras and getting her to direct, filling the cast with notable names, and finding the money, it all happened under her watch. Without the Oscar winner, the movie doesn’t exist. So, as it gets set to hit theaters, I recently had the chance to hop on Zoom and talk to Winslet for a bit. Today, that discussion comes your way.
In my review of Lee here, I said the following about Winslet’s performance:
Kate Winslet is the reason to see this flick. She’s wanted to get this done for years, so when it came time to shoot, she was more than ready. There’s energy and intensity from the actress, matching a lot of what she’s been able to accomplish in the past. Winslet is in top form, plain and simple.
Below, you can see my conversation with Winslet. We didn’t have a ton of time, but her explanation of how she was a point person in developing the project guided our chat. Whether it’s the screenplay from Liz Hannah and company, Kuras directing, or her co-stars sticking around during development, the passion that Winslet has for Lee is clear to see.
