Coming out of the Venice Film Festival and Telluride Film Festival, the most notable movie still seeking distribution was September 5. Almost out of nowhere, this look at how ABC Sports covered the terrorist attack during the 1972 Munich Olympics became buzzed about as an awards player. However, it had no studio behind it. Well, that changed yesterday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures has stepped in to acquire the film. They’ll release it starting on November 27th on a limited basis, expanding into December as it makes an Oscar push. The movie is directed by Tim Fehlbaum, with Peter Sarsgaard and John Magaro leading the cast, alongside Leonie Benesch in a supporting role. Update your predictions accordingly.

One very… let’s just say “infamous” Oscar pundit with a history of questionable ethical decision-making abilities has expressed an obsession with this movie that has tipped into the downright bizarre, with every piece of news about this movie facing any degree of setbacks to its marketing or release plans spun by him as some sinister conspiracy to bury a future all-time masterpiece. Got turned down from screening at a festival? Outside forces are conspiring against it. Review from a critic expressing anything less than unequivocal gushing? He or she obviously has a pre-existing agenda against it. Not automatically at the top of every single pundit’s speculative rankings of the Best Picture frontrunners? They must be colluding to sabotage its awards chances.
So it’s nice that he’s got some good news about this thing that he’s decided is his cause célèbre for pretty much all of 2024.
