Ranking the Best Performances From Channing Tatum So Far

Magic Mike

Channing Tatum has really seen his career take a turn for the well respected over its second half. Once upon a time, he was basically the next pretty boy, not asked to do too much and responding in kind. However, that’s changed in a big way, making him not just an A-list movie star, but the kind of actor that can anchor a film with awards aspirations. As his latest project Blink Twice is about to hit theaters, while his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine is still cleaning up at the box office, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to do another of my top ten lists.

Full disclosure, I used to not be a fan of the man’s on-screen talents. Things like The Vow drew my ire, which now I do feel a bit bad about. There was a definite turn, which led to now actually looking forward to when he’s in projects. When I saw him as the lead in Fly Me to the Moon, my review here had the following to say:

Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum bring some real charm as well as star power to the picture. They have nice chemistry, both characters are enjoyable on their own, but better when together. These are movie stars in the true sense of the word, elevating the work.

Columbia Pictures

Below, you can see where I rank Tatum’s best work. For me, nothing dramatically matches up with Foxcatcher, which should have scored him his first Academy Award nomination. Tatum as an Oscar nominee would have been unthinkable to me at one point, but now? It makes sense. I also love him in both 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street, as well as in the shockingly good Magic Mike (Magic Mike XXL is no slouch, either), while I find his turns in both 10 Years and Dog (which established him as a filmmaker, too) fairly underrated. How does it all stack up? Find out next…

Here now is my ranking of the top performances from Channing Tatum so far. Behold:

Not a bad list – great to see Stop Loss on there. I can’t get past (literally) Carell’s nose in Foxcatcher. But no She’s the Man?
