Austin Butler Set to Star in ‘Caught Stealing’ from Darren Aronofsky

After making quite the impact as Elvis Presley in Elvis and Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Dune: Part Two and set to star in Jeff NicholsThe Bikeriders and Ari Aster‘s Eddington, Austin Butler sets his sights on another major filmmaking project with a top directorial talent attached.

According to Deadline, Butler will team up with Darren Aronofsky to bring Caught Stealing to life for Sony Pictures. The film will be based on Charlie Huston‘s book of the same name, which the author also penned the screenplay adaptation of. Arronofsky’s production company, Protozoa, will also be involved in producing duties.

The movie will follow “Hank Thompson, a burned-out former baseball player, as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ‘90s NYC.”

In a statement, Aronofsky said, “I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers.”

Meanwhile, Sanford Panitch, President of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, said, “Darren is one of the most brilliant audiovisual storytellers in the world, and adapting these wonderful books by Charlie Huston for Austin to star was too exciting an opportunity to not be a part of.”

This will be Aronofsky’s first major project after 2022’s The Whale, which went on to win the Best Actor Oscar for Brendan Fraser in a heated race against Austin Butler. Could this pave the way for Butler’s Oscar win? Who knows, but it’s certainly a project to look out for.
