First Trailer for ‘Echo’ Introduces a Grittier, Darker Side to the MCU

The first trailer for Marvel’s latest Disney+ series, Echo, has been released online. Created by Marion Dayre, with episodes directed by Sydney Freeland and Caitriona McKenzie, the series will star Alaqua Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Graham Greene, Cody Lightning, Charlie Cox, Devery Jacobs, and Zahn McClarnon.

Here is the plot synopsis:

“The five-episode streaming event spotlights Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) as she is pursued by Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) criminal empire. When the journey brings her home, she must confront her own family and legacy.”

Echo marks a massive change in tone and style for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it will be the studio’s first TV-MA-rated series. This bodes extremely well for upcoming titles like Daredevil: Born Again and Blade, showing that Marvel can go all in on a grittier, darker side of the franchise after holding back on violence in most of their titles. It was already confirmed that Deadpool 3 would get an R-rating, but Kevin Feige remained bullish on the potential of more adult-oriented content for the MCU. It looks like this is no longer the case and will hopefully pave the way for more.

Additionally, a poster for the series was also released, which you can look at below:

You can watch the trailer below and stream all episodes on Hulu and Disney+ on January 10. The episodes will be available on Hulu until April 9.
