Interview: Bridget Everett and Jeff Hiller on Coming Back for a Fun, Wonderful ‘Somebody Somewhere’ Season 2

One of the most underrated series on television, Somebody Somewhere, is back for its second season on HBO, airing after megahits Succession and Barry. Bridget Everett and Jeff Hiller star as two Kansas residents taking life’s punches as they come and enjoying their laughter-filled friendship in the half-hour dramedy.

Awards Radar had the chance to speak with Everett and Hiller about their underdog status and the succinctness of a seven-episode season:

“Seven episodes go by very quickly, but we have such a small writers’ room and everything is so carefully thought out. We spend so much time doing it and it just goes by so quickly. It’s like making yourself a casserole. You’re like, okay, yeah, I live alone but I want to have all these different flavors. And then you eat it, and it’s over, and you’ve gotta clean all the fucking dishes.”

Everett also addressed the untimely passing of her onscreen father, Mike Hagerty:

“I’m not going to lie, it was pretty heartbreaking. Losing Mike leaves a big hole for us personally, and then in the show. He loved being on the show and he was so good on the show. We had big plans for him for season two, so it’s been a heartbreak. Carolyn Strauss came up with the idea for how to handle his loss, and I think it’s really beautiful. We get to kind of keep him with us.”

New episodes of Somebody Somewhere premiere Sundays at 10:30pm on HBO.
