It’s been a great run for Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which has taken home twenty Emmy Awards over the course of its first four seasons. Now, the show returns for its final nine episodes, sending Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) and everyone else off into the sunset with a bit more comedy and drama before their time is up.
Ahead of the final season premiere, Awards Radar had the chance to speak with both sets of parents, Caroline Aaron (Shirley) and Kevin Pollak (Moishe) and Tony Shalhoub (Abe) and Marin Hinkle (Rose), as well as two new cast members, Reid Scott (Gordon) and Jason Ralph (Mike).
Aaron and Pollak expressed their sentiments on saying goodbye to their characters:
“It’s surreal and fantastic and sad and wonderful and exciting. It’s different though. We’ve done this every year, and the idea of coming together to do press and we’re not coming together for the next season feels very different. But I have an overwhelming sense of gratitude and celebration. It’s a big celebration. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.”
Shalhoub and Hinkle addressed the fast pace of the show and whether that means an extended filming process:
“There are surprisingly not that many takes, but there’s a lot of rehearsal that goes into it, so that we can keep the number of takes down to a somewhat sane number. Unlike most scripted shows, we do rehearse a lot, which I think is great. It’s kind of a luxury. You can make most of your mistakes then, but then when the cameras roll, everyone tries to be one hundred percent. More than one hundred percent focused.”
Scott and Ralph shared their observations on working with a tremendous ensemble:
“In our world, everyone was so perfectly cast. We’d get into these large groups, which were really fun to shoot because it keeps the energy going, and you’re all getting to play with one another. It felt like a sports team. It felt like everyone had been together for twenty years. It just works. Even just the table reads. The table reads are epic. They feel so alive and real, and everyone is perfect. We’re very lucky.”
