Viggo Mortensen and Rachael Taylor have reportedly joined the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson‘s next film, which already includes names such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Joaquin Phoenix and Regina Hall. The cast continues to expand as production on the project is set to begin this year, for a possible theatrical release in 2024.
There are currently no plot details regarding the upcoming movie, but rumors have pointed towards the direction of the story dealing with Leonardo DiCaprio training a young girl in martial arts. Other rumors suggested the film could adapt a period of GOP history. Perhaps the two plotlines are related in a completely unexpected way?
The last movie Paul Thomas Anderson released was 2021’s Licorice Pizza, which told the story of how Alana (Alana Haim) and Gary (Cooper Hoffman) get involved in a controversial relationship. Due to the considerable age difference between the characters, the bond might not be what is commonly expected from movies, displaying how Thomas Anderson is willing to bend the rules in order to tell a compelling story.
On the other hand, Viggo Mortensen’s last project was his appearance in David Cronenberg‘s Crimes of the Future. The movie takes place in a reality where significant advances in biotechnology led to the invention of machines and (analogue) computers that can directly interface with and control bodily functions, which have become the norm.
