Interview: Andrea Riseborough on the Realism Depicted in ‘To Leslie’

When you watch To Leslie, it’s impossible not to be struck by the work of Andrea Riseborough. It’s a flawless turn, lacking in any artifice. What easily could have been melodrama instead becomes a powerful character study, led by her affecting work. Truly, it’s one of the most underrated performances of the year. I spoke to Marc Maron here about To Leslie. Today, it’s Riseborough’s turn.

In my review of To Leslie (here), I had this to say about Riseborough’s performance:

Andrea Riseborough has rarely been better than she is here in the lead, while Marc Maron does career best work in a prime supporting role. Both are given parts like this far too infrequently, so it’s a pleasure to see. Riseborough shows why she’s one of the industry’s most underrated talents, while Maron takes an unlikely character for him and more than makes it his own.

This is a dark horse Best Actress contender, so watch out for her to score some more precursor attention before all is said and done.
