After a couple of weeks of specultaion, Harrison Ford is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the role of General Thadeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. He will be taking over the role from William Hurt, who passed away earlier this year. Ford will appear in Captain America: New World Order, which is releasing in the summer of 2024.
Not a lot of details are currently known regarding the Captain America film, which will be led by Anthony Mackie returning to the role of Sam Wilson. But since The Leader has been confirmed as a villain in the story, it will be interesting to see what direction the movie will take after adding another Hulk-releated character in the form of General Ross.
Ford will reprise the role in that same summer’s Thunderbolts, starring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan and David Harbour. His appearance in the team-up film makes sense, due to the fact that the team is named after his character in the comics, as seen in the title of the project. It is unknown if this will be a limited deal for those two appearances or if Ford will continue to make his presence felt within the franchise.
Captain America: New World Order is currently scheduled to release in theaters on May 3rd, 2024. The Thunderbolts will hit the screen a few weeks later, currently scheduled to release on July 26th of that same year. Both films will be part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

My joy at the prospect of seeing a grumpy, checked-out Harrison Ford acrimoniously promoting a Marvel movie in the near future is tempered by my dread at seeing frenzied right-wing violence over this movie’s title.
Ugh, what was Kevin Feige thinking???
