For those who have wondered what the MCU’s Thunderbolts would look like without General Ross, it looks like Marvel has recast the character, who was previously portrayed by William Hurt in The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and, most recently, Black Widow.
Hurt passed away earlier this year, with no comment on whether the character would be recast or retired. However, as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is currently rounding up the Thunderbolts, many believed that she would ultimately lead up the team when they would eventually come together. Her casting for the movie was confirmed at D23, alongside Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and Hannah John-Kamen.
Now, SlashFilm has reported that Marvel will be replacing Hurt with Harrison Ford, who will be making his debut as General Ross in the MCU with Captain America: New World Order, which will lead into the events of Thunderbolts. With the recasting, it’s clear that Marvel has big plans in mind for Ross, who could potentially transform into Red Hulk, like in the comics. Could Harrison Ford portray Red Hulk in a potential World War Hulk movie? Is that where it’s leading up? If that ‘s the case, it would be pretty cool to see Ford take on such an iconic character, and hopefully go above Hurt’s portrayal of Ross in the process.
