Welcome back to my Home Movies! This week, the month of August starts off with, well…nothing new of note. It’s not a slate really worth mentioning today, so while there’s a top pick to be had in Cow, most of what I’m doing this time around is looking back. Read on for more, including how I manage to tie The Boss into all of this…
Cow
I actually have not seen Andrea Arnold‘s Cow, which has gotten almost exclusively raves. So, I’m kind of going just on reputation here with one of my more recent cinematic blind spots, but it seems like a quietly moving film. The official site has this to say about the movie:
Academy Award winner Andrea Arnold returns with an intimate portrait of one dairy cow’s life. The film highlights the beauty and challenges cows face, and their great service to us all.
So, this week, I’m padding things a little by saying you should just watch something, anything, that brings you a little joy. One example? I’m pretty chuffed to have scored tickets to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in concert next year, so I may well revisit his last two concert film/documentary hybrids in Western Stars and Bruce Springsteen’s Letter to You, which I actually reviewed here (as well as spoke to director here). Whatever fits for you all, make sure you pop it in today!
