Julius Onah to Direct ‘Captain America 4’

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news earlier today that Julius Onah is set to direct Captain America 4, which will star Anthony Mackie as the titular character, after accepting the mantle of Captain America during the final episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

It was previously announced that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman (who Joey interviewed here) and Dalan Musson, who wrote episode five of the series, will pen the screenplay. Spellman wrote the first and co-wrote the last episode of the Disney+ show with Josef Sawyer. It is unclear if stars Sebastian Stan and Emily VanCamp will show up in this installment of Captain America, though one could expect Sharon Carter to pop up as the show’s post-credit scene seemed to have set her up as a major player in the next movie.

No other details are known for the project at this time, but an announcement could arrive very soon, either at San Diego Comic-Con in two weeks or at the D23 Expo in September. Onah is best known for having directed The Cloverfield Paradox in 2018, which was met with negative reviews when it was surprise-released on Netflix during SuperBowl Sunday.

His follow-up, Luce, which starred Kelvin Harrison Jr., Octavia Spencer, Tim Roth, and Naomi Watts, was critically praised and received multiple accolades from the Film Independent Spirit Awards, Hollywood Critics Association Film Awards, and the NAACP Image Awards among others.
