The official plot synopsis for George Miller‘s Furiosa has been revealed by Collider, in anticipation for the movie’s release on May 24, 2024. Directed by Miller, with a screenplay by Miller and Nico Lathouris, the movie will act as both a spin-off and prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, with Anya Taylor-Joy playing the film’s titular character. Furiosa was played by Charlize Theron in 2015.
The plot synopsis reads: “As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
Also joining the film’s cast is Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke in undisclosed roles, Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus, and Angus Sampson as The Organic Mechanic. Principal photography on the film began early this month in Australia. Junkie XL will also be returning, from Fury Road, to compose the score.

Look, the director of possibly my favorite film of the previous decade gets a ton of leeway here… but I’m nervous about this.
One of the joys of Mad Max: Fury Road was catching all the little neat visual details that implied a much deeper world we were jumping into. I don’t need a prequel to explain the “lore” of all that stuff any more than I needed a scene to explain how Indiana Jones got his whip and fedora, or a prequel telling me how Han Solo met Chewbacca.
Very true.
