Interview: Casey Patterson on Bringing Together Everyone for ‘A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote’

Casey Patterson had a tough job when it came to helping produce a special episode of The West Wing. In reuniting Aaron Sorkin with his cast, she ran the risk of tainting what came before. However, A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote is beautiful and like an acoustic episode of the show. Whether it’s the choice of episode, the way the voting issues are deftly brought in, or how they honored a fallen cast member, it all just sings. The Emmy nomination is some nice icing on the cake for her, to be sure. So, when given a chance to talk Sorkin, The West Wing, and this special in particular, I was game. As you’ll hear below, so too was Patterson.

Below, you can hear my conversation with Patterson. She seemed to really have a good time here, which probably was at least in part due to my affection for the show. Having revisited the special in advance of this chat, I was eager to praise it, with one bit actually really hitting home with her. We discussed how it all came together, why it was so important, and how much of the special they got dead on accurate. Remember when they were telling us that the results would take a few days, not to believe early declarations of victory, and debunking claims of voter fraud? Yeah, me too. Sigh. Well, enjoy this discussion, and know that this nomination is very well deserved…

Here now is my interview with A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote producer Casey Patterson. Enjoy:
