‘Chronicle 2’ In Development With A Female Lead

Sometimes, when a movie is released and years go by without a sequel, everybody just (understandably) assumes that there isn’t going to be one. After all, if a sequel was ever in mind, why would they wait so long to actually go ahead and make it?

For years, discussions of a sequel to Josh Trank‘s Chronicle were circling around but the idea never came to fruition. In 2020, Trank even stated “I really didn’t ever want to see Chronicle 2 happen. That was my worst nightmare. First of all, I’m not doing it. Second, if somebody else does it, then you know it’s gonna be a piece of s–t.”

Well, Trank may not like today’s piece of news because it has just been confirmed that Chronicle 2 is officially in the works as confirmed by producer John Davis. The upcoming project is set to introduce brand new female characters as the leads instead of bringing back the characters from the first movie.

“We’re working on Chronicle 2 right now, and I think it’s going to be great. We’re working on it at Fox (20th Century Studios). It’s going to give us a chance to tell the story in a different way. We’re going to tell it from the female point of view. It will have been ten years since the event happened in Seattle, and a lot of it’s going to deal with fake news and real news and cover-ups. More interestingly, it’s the next generation getting these powers that are corruptive. These are young women just finishing college, they are empowered, and this is their journey. I mean, what a new and interesting story you can tell there”, Davis said.

Because the film is only in the development stages, don’t expect it to be coming out anytime soon, but when we have more information, we will provide more details on Chronicle 2. Stay tuned to Awards Radar.
