Julianne Moore is an actress who needs no introduction. The Oscar winner and 5-time nominee is one of the most acclaimed stars of her generation, the kind of name who makes a new project a must-see simply by nature of her being in it.
Her latest is the Apple TV+ limited series Lisey’s Story, based on the novel by Stephen King. Said by King to be his favorite of all his works, the story centers on Lisey Landon (Moore), the widow of an acclaimed author (Clive Owen) who is trying to move on with her life and figure out how to exist on her own.
King adapted all eight episodes of the series himself, with each one directed by Jackie’s Pablo Larraín, a filmmaker whose unique style brings an interesting touch to the world that King has created on the page. While the series jumps between time and even different planes of existence, Moore is the glue that keeps us grounded in the real world and in the journey of this character.
It’s another tremendous performance from the star, and I was excited to get to speak with her about the task of keeping the audience in the headspace of the character as we make all of these shifts through different areas of the story. It was a brief conversation, but Moore was an absolute ray of sunshine, and we even got to have a delightful moment speaking about her status as the all-time greatest screen crier.
Her declaration at the end of our interview that it was great to get to speak with another redhead is a small sign of what a delight she is, despite putting herself through intense emotional turmoil on screen.
