Interview: Ron Cephas Jones on Tackling a Complicated Character in ‘Lisey’s Story’

Ron Cephas Jones is among the most endearing elements of This Is Us, portraying William, the birth father of Sterling K. Brown’s Randall who gets to connect with his son years after they are separated. The actor has been nominated at the Emmy Awards four times and taken home two trophies for his heartwarming turn.

Now, Jones is turning to a less clearly likeable character, taking on the mysterious, driven Professor Dashmiel, a key figure in the eerie Apple TV+ series Lisey’s Story.

Awards Radar had the chance to speak with Jones, whose real-life demeanor is much closer to that of William than Dashmiel, and learn what drew him to the role as well as his reverence for costars Julianne Moore and Dane DeHaan, and series writer Stephen King. Watch the full chat below!
