When Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsay, and Rodney Rothman released Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse back in December of 2018 through Sony Pictures Releasing, it was clear that they had an enormous hit on their hands. The film, which was produced by Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Christina Steinberg with a screenplay by Lord and Rothman, manage to rake in an impressive $375.5 million at the box office with a budget of $90 million.
So, a sequel was inevitable and it’s been in the works for some time now. We already know that Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld will be reprising their voice roles as Miles Morales / Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy / Spider-Gwen respectively. But today, we learned that Issa Rae will be joining the voice cast of the sequel in the role of Jessica Drew / Spider-Woman.
The upcoming animated sequel isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until October 7, 2022, so a trailer and poster will more than likely drop next year rather than this year. But with Rae’s casting announcement being made public, it’s possible that more additions to the sequel will be revealed soon.
