Get ready everyone – a Cher biopic is on the way. The iconic figure celebrated her 75th birthday on Thursday night by tweeting out the news that Universal is setting up a movie about her life with some major names already on board.
No star is currently set in the leading role (which will surely be hotly discussed and sought after), but Cher revealed that Eric Roth would be writing the project. Roth, of course, is an Oscar-winning writer behind films such as Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and 2018’s A Star is Born.
The film is set to be produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman (along with Cher), the duo behind the Mamma Mia! Movies, of which Cher starred in the sequel.
In a statement reported by Deadline, Craymer said, “Gary and I are thrilled to be working with Cher again and this time bringing her empowering and true life odyssey to the big screen. One cannot help but be drawn to and inspired by Cher’s larger than life talent, fortitude, unique wit, warmth and vision. Her unparalleled success in music film and TV have inspired generations. We could not be happier to tell her story to cinema audiences.”
