Leos Carax’s latest film, Annette, starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard, will make its world premiere on July 6, 2021, opening the Cannes Film Festival. This will mark the return of the festival after its cancellation in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This musical will mark the return to the festival for Carax after his critically acclaimed film Holy Motors (2012). The film’s original screenplay, score, and songs were penned by Ron Mael and Russell Mael of the pop/rock band Sparks. After Cannes, it is currently set to be released in later summer 2021 in theaters and on Amazon Prime Video. Simon Helberg co-stars.
This love story follows Henry (Driver), a stand-up comedian, and Ann (Cotillard), a renowned opera singer and their glamorous and passionate romance. When they have their first child Annette, a child with a mysterious gift, however, their world is flipped upside down.
