Aaron Sorkin is back, and looking better than ever. During the first Sunday night game of this season’s NFL season, Netflix released the Official Teaser Trailer for their $50M purchase, The Trial of the Chicago 7.
What was intended to be a peaceful protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention turned into a violent clash with police and the National Guard. The organizers of the protest—including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale—were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.
The film stars Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Frank Langella, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Jeremy Strong, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch and Alex Sharp.
Netflix has also been busy. Besides Chicago 7, they own a good chunk of the top contenders for this awards season:
Da 5 Bloods – Directed by Spike Lee
Hillbilly Elegy – Directed by Ron Howard
I’m Thinking of Ending Things – Directed by Charlie Kaufman
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom – Directed by George C. Wolfe
Mank – Directed by David Fincher
The Trial of the Chicago 7 will be released on Netflix October 16th, 2020.

Very much looking forward to Sacha Baron Cohen in this one because it wasn’t until recently that I found out how politically involved he was, and how good he was at delivering speeches. Looks like he’ll even get to be funny in this one, too, so this is like, the perfect role for him imo. Right now, for me, this is pretty high up there as far as 2020 trailers go.
My predicted winner in Picture, at the moment…
