Awards Radar Community / Sunday Scaries: What Horror Movie Are You Still Looking Forward to This Year?

Sony

We’re in the final days of August, if you can believe it? The fall movie season, along with the various film festivals, are just days away now. Along with the cooling of the weather, the cinematic offerings will begin changing. At the same time, horror is often a constant, with the fall and winter of 2026 proving to be no exception. So, with today being Sunday, a hybrid Awards Radar Community Question / Sunday Scaries piece is in order. Given the genre we always discuss on the weekend, the question being posed feels fairly obvious. What horror movie (or movies) are you still looking forward to during the rest of the year? We’ll provide some options that I think could strike your fancy, but after that, it’s on you to tell us the films…

For many of you, the pick will be Robert EggersWerwulf. Following up Nosferatu with a werewolf film almost feels too obvious, but knowing how Eggers operates, what we’re getting will in no way resemble anything we’ve seen before. It may be the most serious of the horror lot still to be released, but it also will be among the best crafted works of 2026, overall, and that’s enough to make it a must see in my book.

Most of the rest of you will be going with Zach Cregger‘s Resident Evil. I’ve certainly written a bit about this one already, as any Sunday Scaries reader will know, so it’s my most anticipated horror title left this year. Cregger can do no wrong in the world of scary movies, is surely putting his mark on the video game franchise, and will likely surprise folks with what this actually turns out to be. I legitimately can not wait.

The other title of note here? Clayface, which I’ve also written about throughout the year in prior Sunday Scaries pieces. This DC Studios flick will hopefully be the body horror outing that’s been hinted at, because if so, that should prove to be something memorable. There’s a decent chance it underwhelms in the end, but hey…what if it doesn’t? How cool would that be?

Warner Bros.

If Clayface, Resident Evil, or Werwulf aren’t your thing, there’s a pair of spider movies that certainly aren’t my thing in Crawlers and Spider Island (shudder…as in, I’m shuddering, not the streaming service). There’s also Buddy, Other Mommy, and Victorian Psycho to consider. Plus, both Return of the Living Dead and The Young People are supposedly still 2026 releases, even though little to nothing has been heard or seen from them so far. These are perhaps more eclectic choices, but they’re clearly titles that some people are or will be excited about.

The choice is now yours. Which fright flicks still to be released in 2026 are you most looking forward to? If it’s one or more of the films mentioned above, definitely say so. If it’s a movie I neglected to cite? All the better, clue us in. Either way, don’t be shy…
