Joey’s Home Movies For the Week of August 17th – Catch Up With Some 4K Re-Releases Like the Sylvester Stallone Disaster Flick ‘Daylight’

Welcome back to my Home Movies! Today, we don’t have any 2025 or 2026 new releases of note to discuss, but the slate does feature some very solid 4K and Blu-ray re-releases. This week includes the underrated Sylvester Stallone action flick Daylight, as well as Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler and Denzel Washington in Flight. What else is hitting shelves? Read on to find out…

Joey’s Top Pick

Universal Pictures

Daylight (4K)

Sylvester Stallone in a disaster flick? Daylight is a bit of a slept upon action film from Sly, but it’s always made an impression on me, going back to the trailer prior to release. Stallone saving the day in this movie set in a tunnel connecting New Jersey and New York is deeply satisfying. As an aside, for those of you who hear me talk on the Awards Radar Podcast about Friday or Saturday night movie nights that I often participate in with some fellow writers, we did Daylight one week. Lo and behold, when I leave Manhattan to spend the weekend in Jersey City, what tunnel do we usually wind up taking? The same one depicted in this outing. I’ll never argue that this is high art, but Stallone fans who have yet to check this one out would do well to give it a shot. Especially now that it’s available in glorious 4K, what are you waiting for?
