‘Is This Thing On?’ to be Submitted in Drama Categories at the Golden Globes

Variety has announced that Searchlight Pictures is planning to submit Bradley Cooper‘s Is This Thing On? in the drama categories for this year’s Golden Globes. Moreover, stars Will Arnett and Laura Dern will campaign for lead acting consideration in their respective categories.

While the movie does talk about a stand-up comic, the plot itself is more dramatic than fitting for the Comedy/Musical category, which is already stacked with major potential contenders, while the drama category still feels like an open field at this point in the awards season, with only Sinners and Hamnet being significant locks.

Cooper directs and co-writes with Arnett and Mark Chappell, with Cooper, Andra Day, Christine Ebersole, Ciarán Hinds, Amy Sedaris, Sean Hayes, and Scott Icenogle co-starring. Here is the plot synopsis:

“As their marriage quietly unravels, Alex (Will Arnett) faces middle age and an impending divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene while Tess (Laura Dern) confronts the sacrifices she made for their family—forcing them to navigate co-parenting, identity, and whether love can take a new form.”

Is This Thing On? releases exclusively in cinemas on December 19.
