It’s no secret that Netflix doesn’t value the theatrical experience like other streamers do, let alone other distributors. At the same time, during Oscar season, their qualifying runs for films do play in theaters, albeit not in AMC cinemas. So, when it was announced that they were getting KPop Demon Hunters, it was a notable change in their relationship. Now, it seems like that could be just the start. More below.
According to Variety, AMC and Netflix have been working towards more of a partnership. Not only will that lead to more theaters running their films, it could also lead to more expansive runs for said movies. Two examples for next year are Greta Gerwig’s Narnia adaptation and David Fincher’s The Adventures of Cliff Booth with Brad Pitt reprising his role. The awards season runs for Netflix titles will certainly continue, though there may well be more on the horizon. Stay tuned.
