The Sunday Scaries are upon us once again! Yes, as the weekend concludes, most of us feel an oncoming sense of anticipatory dread about the week ahead. Anxiety about work manifests itself into a feeling that’s known as the Sunday Scaries. However, we at Awards Radar are here to combat that, by taking back the name. Now, we want you think about a horror-centric piece on the site when you hear the term. So, let us continue on with another installment of the Awards Radar Sunday Scaries! This time around, we’re looking at some of the horror films left to see in 2025…
There has been no shortage of quality horror so far in 2025, whether it’s 28 Years Later, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Good Boy, Heart Eyes, The Monkey, Presence, Together, or of course, the awards friendly duo of Sinners and Weapons that has lit the film world on fire. So, is anything left this year? Well, luckily there is, which is what we’re looking at today. We might be towards the end of the calendar already, but horror is still going strong.
Below, I have a half dozen fright flicks worth mentioning, separated into two tiers. The first tier could wind up being more of a mixed bag, while the second one contains the most anticipated ones, overall. Regardless, these six titles run the gamut of horror and likely offer up something for just about any fan of the genre.
First up, here are three scary movies that I can’t vouch for, but are intrigued by in one way or another. They are Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, The Plague, and Shelby Oaks. I notably wasn’t a fan of Five Nights at Freddy’s, so that keeps me at arm’s length with this sequel. Still, there’s no question that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be a hit, so not including it would be silly. The Plague is a bit horror adjacent, but played at the Cannes Film Festival, so has a bit of prestige to it. Then, there’s Shelby Oaks, which has been floating around for a year but now is coming out this month, fueled by a NEON campaign reminiscent of Longlegs.
Next, we have the three biggest ones left this year. In just a few days, Black Phone 2 will be released. I’m seeing it on Tuesday and will have a review up before the end of the week. The Black Phone was a nifty little horror flick, so a more supernatural sequel that again can showcase Ethan Hawke has my attention. There’s also Frankenstein from Guillermo del Toro, which I saw back at the Telluride Film Festival. My festival review is here, so you know where I stand, but in terms of size and scale, this is likely the horror event of the fall/winter. Finally, there’s Keeper, the latest effort from Osgood Perkins. Considering how much I loved Longlegs last year and The Monkey at the start of 2025, I’m very much here for this one. Plus, it looks as disturbing and unusual as you’d expect from Perkins.
Will all of these films be good? Probably not, but we can already vouch for some of them, which is a plus. Feel free to let us know which of these films you’re most looking forward to. If you’re interested in one we didn’t mention, cite it as well. Consider this a spot to talk about any remaining 2025 horror movies. Have at it…

Stay tuned for another Sunday Scaries installment next week!

I saw the trailer for Keeper in the theatre just before a showing of Together and thought it was one of the best trailers for a horror film that I’d seen in a long time because it was damn creepy and doesn’t give anything clearly away plot wise which makes a refreshing change. Also, it looks like Oz Perkins is once again doing something different in style and tone, never repeating himself.
