First Trailer for ‘Nouvelle Vague’ Releases Ahead of TIFF Premiere

The first trailer for Nouvelle Vague has been released online. Directed by Richard Linklater and written by Holly Gent, Vincent Palmo Jr., Michèle Halberstadt, and Laetitia Masson, the film stars Guillaume Marbeck, Aubry Dullin, and Zoey Deutch.

Here is the plot synopsis:

“Nouvelle Vague is Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater’s love letter to the spellbinding magic of French cinema, reimagining the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s revolutionary Breathless, which ultimately cemented Godard as a pioneer of the French New Wave. As critic-turned-director Godard makes and breaks the rules, a mix of fresh faces and daring talents — including Zoey Deutch as Jean Seberg, Aubry Dullin as Jean-Paul Belmondo, and Guillaume Marbeck as Godard himself — bring his spontaneous, electric film to life. Capturing the youthful dynamism and creative chaos at the heart of one of the world’s most beloved and influential movies, Nouvelle Vague transports us to the streets of 1959 Paris for an ode to the power of cinema to transform our lives.”

Our editor in chief, Joey Magidson, had a chance to see the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival and said here that “Nouvelle Vague is so much fun, full of charm, as well as always feeling deeply researched. Linklater knows his stuff, that much is clear, but he’s also making another, at its core, hangout movie. It’s done in such a way that you don’t need to know too much about Breathless in order to enjoy the flick, though the more you know, the more you’ll appreciate what Linklater is pulling off.”

Watch the trailer below, and see the movie in theatres on October 31 and on Netflix on November 14.
