Aaron Pierre and Amy Adams Cast in ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ as Filming Begins

Star Wars: Starfighter has begun production today, and new actors are joining its already star-studded cast! Directed by Shawn Levy and written by Jonathan Tropper, the upcoming Star Wars standalone movie will star Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, and Mia Goth

Joining the cast as the cameras have started rolling are Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Flynn Gray, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings

In a statement, Levy had this to say:

“I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off is the thrill of a lifetime.”

This marks the second post-Rise of Skywalker Star Wars live-action movie to enter production, with Jon Favreau’s upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will be released in theatres on May 22, 2026. If all goes well with production, Star Wars: Starfighter is expected to be released on May 28, 2027.

Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever.

Flash Gordon shaped George Lucas‘s sense of what story can do. Samurai movies like The Hidden Fortress taught him that characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. And then he took those inspirations and blended them together to make an original sci-fi fantasy movie that blew people away.

Fifty years later, we’re going to watch Shawn Levy apparently achieve his ultimate dream of making an “original” Star Wars movie inspired by… other Star Wars movies.
