Interview: Talking ‘The Toxic Avenger’ with Filmmaker Macon Blair

The Toxic Avenger may not seem like the sort of remake that needs a degree of loving attention, but it is. The original franchise is the kind of thing that can be very poorly updated for modern audiences. So, it takes someone with the right touch, and filmmaker Macon Blair certainly is that. After a long delay, the movie is finally hitting theaters on Friday. Earlier in the summer, Blair and I spoke about the film. Today, our conversation comes your way.

My review will be up later this week, but as a but of a previous…it’s a bloody good time. Funny, gory, and very much in keeping with the spirt of The Toxic Avenger, Blair’s take is a B-movie blast. Peter Dinklage leads a very game cast that’s 100% up for what Blair is pulling off. I got a major kick out of it, as you’ll see once the review hits, likely on Wednesday.

Below, you can see my chat with Blair. We talk a lot about the long road to making and finally releasing the flick, including it being seen in actual movie theaters. It’s clear that Blair is proud of the work and relieved that it’s being given some TLC. Plus, the film actually feels like it comes from him, given the distinctive feel of I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore, which he was behind, so that’s a nice little compliment for him. We have a good time, and I think you will too with our discussion, as well as with The Toxic Avenger itself this weekend…

Here now is my interview with The Toxic Avenger writer/director Macon Blair. Enjoy:
