It’s safe to say that Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kang’s KPop Demon Hunters has been a hit for Netflix, and specifically, the song “Golden”, from the fictitious band HUNTR/X debuted at the number 8 spot on the Billboard 200, already making it the highest soundtrack debut of the year. The band’s album is also the top female group on Spotify, with “Golden” being the most-streamed song of the pack.
Naturally, Netflix will want to capitalize on the skyrocketing success of this incredible song with an awards campaign, and that is precisely what they are going to do. According to Variety, the streamer plans to submit the song for consideration for Best Original Song at this year’s awards season. The song is also being released as an official single, accompanied by a three-track bundle set to be released tomorrow, featuring the original, instrumental, and a cappella versions of the song.
The movie was massive for Netflix, beginning first with 9.2 million views during its opening weekend, earning an additional 24.2 million views during its second week, and the momentum will continue much longer before awards season begins.
