There is something about the distinctive voice of actor and comedian Brad Garrett that just lends itself to comedy. He was hilarious on Everybody Loves Raymond, of course, and now in the Pixar film Elio, he’s doing very enjoyable voice work. As such, when presented with the opportunity for a brief chat with the man, I didn’t hesitate. We spoke very recently about the movie, and today, right before its release in theaters, that conversation is coming your way!
In my review of Elio (here), I said the following about Garrett:
As for Brad Garrett, his deep and booming voice is well suited for what appears to be a singularly villainous role, though there’s layers to be found there by the end. Garrett, much like Kibreab and Saldaña, clearly are enjoying themselves, which lends the voice work a sense of joy.
Below, you can see my discussion with Garrett. We didn’t have much time, so I wanted to focus on how much fun he seems to be having. Lord Grigon is a character that’s not exactly as he’s initially presented, so it made for an opportunity that Garrett relishes. Plus, he’s just a lovely guy, so it was a pleasure speaking with him. Elio is opening in theaters tomorrow and represents another strong effort from Pixar, of which Garrett is ably contributing to.
Here now is my interview with Elio voice actor Brad Garrett. Enjoy:
Elio is in theaters this weekend!
