As 28 Years Later prepares to release, Danny Boyle is doing a lot of press, talking not just about the film, but others that he’s made. In the case of one specific interview, Boyle got into more than a movie from his past, but sequels to it that we’ll probably never see. The film? None other than Sunshine, a real cult favorite after a disappointing initial release.
According to an interview Boyle gave to Collider, screenwriter Alex Garland had written at least an outline for a pair of Sunshine sequels. There’s very little in the way of details shared, but it seems to have been for a spinoff style of films, focusing on different elements of the sun and that universe. We likely will never see it, though Boyle is cagey enough that it’s possible one day Garland might be interested in the material. Still, it’s a fascinating what-if to consider, right?
