Karla Sofía Gascón to Attend the Academy Awards

A month ago, Karla Sofía Gascón was one of the belles of the Oscar ball. Her film, Emilia Pérez, led the Academy Award nominations, was a major contender to win several categories, including her own of Best Actress. Then, a series of old social media posts surfaced, not only killing all momentum for the movie, but making Gascón a complete non-factor in the late stages of the season. Well, with the Academy Awards on Sunday, that has changed.

According to Variety, not only is Gascón attending the Oscars, Netflix will be paying for her expenses to do so as well. Is it a sign of things thawing? Or, is it just a bit of goodwill as the season comes to an end? It’s hard to say, but final stop on the campaign will include the entire Emilia Pérez cast, so be on the lookout for Gascón on Sunday night.
