Robert Eggers Set to Helm ‘Labyrinth’ Sequel for TriStar and Werewolf Project ‘Werwulf’ for Focus

It’s a busy time to be named Robert Eggers! Fresh off the many Oscar nominations Nosferatu has received, the filmmaker has signed on to direct two projects for separate studios. Up first is a werewolf project that will be his next feature, aptly titled Werwulf, which he will helm for Focus Features.

The movie, set to release on Christmas Day 2026, will be set in 13th Century England and contain dialogue that is true to the time period, with translations and annotations for people who are unfamiliar with the dialect spoken. The plan was to initially shoot the movie in black-and-white, but The Hollywood Reporter has stated that this is no longer the case. This will be yet another venture in period horror for Eggers, who has made it his mark ever since he came onto the independent sphere with his 2016 folk horror feature The Witch

However, he will also be flexing his filmmaking muscles very soon, as he’s signed on to write and direct a sequel to 1986’s Labyrinth for TriStar Pictures. As with Werwulf, Eggers will write the screenplay with Sjón, and Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus will executive produce it. For Labyrinth, Brian Henson will also be a part of the producing team with Lisa Henson of The Jim Henson Company.

The project has been a long-gestating one for Sony, with Scott Derrickson initially slated to direct and Maggie Levin writing the screenplay. Derrickson left the project, with Eggers now filling in his shoes. However, Werwulf will be his first priority, as Labyrinth is only in the early stages of development.
