At this point, Saoirse Ronan is way overdue an Oscar. Between Blitz and The Outrun, 2024 has been thought of for some time as her year to win an Academy Award. Now, that’s a scenario that’s still playing out, but after her raves for the latter, which just this past weekend returned to theaters, she remains in the thick of the awards conversation. I previously spoke to Ronan here about Ammonite. Today, she returns to talk The Outrun.
In my review of The Outrun here, I had the following to say about Ronan’s performance:
Saoirse Ronan is easily best in show, with this being one of her best turns to date. She depicts her character’s alcoholism in an incredibly committed and realistic way. It’s not pretty to watch, but it’s undeniably captivating. She grounds the work and keeps you invested
Below, you can see my conversation with Ronan. It’s a short conversation, so I focused in on what the headspace is for a role like this. She gives, as you’d imagine, a very interesting and thoughtful answer, one you might not expect, either. Ronan also talks about the hardest scene for her to shoot, which considering how dark The Outrun gets, is saying something. Between this and Blitz, 2024 is a strong year for her, with more proof that the best is yet to come. Be sure to check her out in The Outrun to find out why…
Here now is my interview with The Outrun star Saoirse Ronan. Enjoy:
