It’s really an achievement that Saoirse Ronan is considered overdue for an Academy Award at such a young age. Think about that. At just 26 years old, she’s already a force in the industry. Nominated for Oscar four times, she’s a favorite of voters. Cited in Best Actress three times (Brooklyn, Lady Bird, and Little Women), she’s also a prior nominee in Best Supporting Actress (Atonement). Now, she’s back in contention in Supporting Actress for Ammonite, where she co-stars with Kate Winslet. A few weeks ago, Ronan was kind enough to jump on Zoom with me for a brief chat about the film, as well as what went into this latest performance.
Below you can hear my conversation with Ronan. It’s a fun one, even beginning (after my intro) with her asking if we’re both in pajamas. Such is interview life in the era of COVID. After some silliness about that, we talk about the movie a bit, as well as what goes into acting in a period piece. She’s an old hand at this by now, so it’s fascinating to hear. A Best Supporting Actress contender for Ammonite, expect to see her cited for this strong work throughout the awards season.
Here’s my interview with Saoirse Ronan. Enjoy, and check out Ammonite, opening this Friday!
