Joey’s Home Movies For the Week of September 16th – An Ultimate Cut of ‘Caligula’ Arrives

Welcome back to my Home Movies! Today, we have one of the more notorious films of all time hitting shelves in Caligula, with a new Ultimate Cut. This week also has a new Criterion Collection release available. What else is hitting shelves? Read on to find out…

Joey’s Top Pick

Caligula

Caligula (Ultimate Cut)

This notorious film gets a new Blu-ray, one that showcases a longer, less pornographic cut. Caligula is mostly known for how it was basically turned into a porn movie, but by returning it to its presumed debauched epic status, this is a definite curiosity. If you’ve at all been wondering about this flick, you don’t have to be curious any longer. You can pick it up and see for yourself!

The Long Good Friday

From The Criterion Collection: “A combustible performance from Bob Hoskins is the fuse that lights this underworld saga, a landmark of British crime cinema. Hoskins plays Harold Shand, an ambitious London mobster who, just as he attempts to close a major real-estate deal with the American Mafia, finds his crime empire rocked by a string of attacks, sending him on a ruthless quest to find out who’s responsible. Abetted by an ice-cool performance from Helen Mirren as Shand’s in-command moll, The Long Good Friday is not only a gripping gangster thriller but also a vivid portrait of late-1970s Britain—a powder keg of cultural and political tensions on the verge of explosion.”
