Superman: Legacy is no more as James Gunn changes the film’s title on its first day of filming. It will simply be called Superman. David Corenswet will portray the title character, with Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult rounding up the leading cast as Lois Lane and Lex Luthor.
Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampiao, and Skyler Gisondo are also slated to appear as Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner, Metamorpho, The Engineer, Eve Teschmacher, and Jimmy Olsen.
James Gunn announced the title change on Instagram in a post celebrating the film’s beginning of principal photography with the following statement:
“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.
When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”
