The Academy Has Announced a New Oscar Category for Achievement in Casting

Some big Oscar news today! The Academy has announced a new category, which marks the first time they’ve done so since creating the Best Animated Feature category over two decades ago. This one will reward Achievement in Casting. Read on for more.

According to a press release by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, this new category will debut at the 9th Academy Awards ceremony. We’ll find out the rules for eligibility and voting for the inaugural Best Casting award in April of 2025, so it’s still a few ceremonies away. At the same time, new categories have been a constant request by many, with this one in particular chief among them. So, people asked, and Oscar (eventually) listened! More on this one soon.
