Gabriel LaBelle To Play Lorne Michaels in Upcoming ‘SNL 1975’ Movie From Jason Reitman

The cast of Jason Reitman‘s SNL 1975 is starting to shape up, with Gabriel LaBelle set to play Lorne Michaels in the upcoming movie, which will chronicle the debut of Saturday Night Live in 1975. Reitman wrote the script with Gil Kenan, with the latter attached to direct Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire after Reitman announced he wouldn’t helm the latest installment in the franchise.

Also joining the cast are Cooper Hoffman and Rachel Sennott, who will respectively play Dick Ebersol and Rosie Shuster. The script is based on extensive interviews with all of the show’s current living screenwriters, cast, and crew members throughout its history Reitman and Kenan had.

While no release date has currently been announced, one guesses that the film will be released in time for SNL’s 50th anniversary, which will take place next year. And if the cards are played right, this could very much be another massive awards player for LaBelle, Hoffman, and Sennott, who all starred in critically acclaimed, Awards-nominated fare over the past three years with The Fabelmans, Licorice Pizza, and Bottoms, respectively.
