Talking to Billy Porter is an experience. The actor is a vibrant personality off-screen, as well as a dynamic presence on screen. His latest film, Our Son, asks him to play a quieter part than usual, but it’s one he’s more than up to the task for. Recently, we spoke about the quiet fabulousness on display in the work. Today, that conversation comes your way.
In my review of Our Son (here), I spoke about the cast, including Porter:
Luke Evans and Billy Porter are both quite good, getting to do the sort of work they’re rarely afforded. Christopher Woodley turns in a solid child actor performance, but Evans and Porter are the showcase. Evans gets to play off of some of his tough guy roles, while Porter is given an opportunity unlike any to date. He truly runs with it, too. Evans and Porter are each doing different things, but they’re equally moving.
Below, you can hear my chat with Porter. He’s quick to laugh, but also very willing to tell it like it is. So, this is an illuminating discussion not just about the flick, but about the state of the business as well. He’s quite good in Our Son, as you’re hopefully about to see, if you haven’t already, but he’s also just a talent with a lot to say. Here’s hoping that they’re given an even bigger platform going forward. He deserves it.
