Interview: Michael Shannon Discusses ‘George & Tammy’ as Well as What Attracts Him to a Role

Nobody does it quite like Michael Shannon. The two-time Academy Award nominee is one of the more unique actors in the business. When you see him onscreen, you know you’re about to see a performance no one else would be putting forward. That sort of curiosity and fearlessness clearly fuel him, so when given the opportunity to speak with him for the Showtime Original series George & Tammy, it was something I couldn’t pass up. We spoke about a month ago, but today, that conversation comes your way.

Below, you can see my chat with Shannon. We met (virtually) to discuss his Emmy candidacy for George & Tammy, but of course we wound up talking about a ton of other topics. We even began before recording with a bit of chatter about my recent Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift concerts. After all, just me singing along to those shows had me nearly lose my voice, while he sung for days on camera while filming the series. He’s clearly an incredibly talented actor, as those Oscar nominations attest to, but you’ll see here what a lovely guy he is, too. We laugh a lot, which I think makes for an excellent conversation. He co-stars with Jessica Chastain in the miniseries, with both doing terrific work as musicians George Jones and Tammy Wynette, respectively. If you haven’t seen it, yet, definitely give it a look…

Here now is my interview with George & Tammy star Michael Shannon. Enjoy:

George & Tammy is available to watch on Showtime!
