Interview: ‘SNL’ Cast Member Ego Nwodim On Her Standout Year

After some significant departures in the cast, Saturday Night Live had the task of shifting focus to a newer crop of talent. While there might be some off seasons here and there, SNL consistently excels at reinventing itself. The behemoth sketch comedy series has been taking new form over and over again for decades at this point. This season, it was a welcome change and one that made room for other cast members to get their shine, including actress and repertory player Ego Nwodim.

Having recently wrapped her fifth season of the show, Ego has racked up memorable moments, notably playing Dionne Warwick in the “The Dionne Warwick Talk Show,” which debuted in 2020. However, this season Ego’s characters became the thing to watch about season 48. Her performance as Lisa from Temecula feels like an instant classic that will live up there with Molly Shannon’s Mary Katherine Gallagher, and her character Ms. Shaw, who brazenly thinks she can conduct an exorcism, is another character that you can drop into other sketches and have just as much fun with her. Watching Nwodim kill it this season exemplifies the magic of seeing a career take new heights.

Ego Nwodim sat down with Awards Radar to discuss her standout year. Check out the conversation below:
