Interview: ‘Andor’ Star Diego Luna Discusses the Opportunity and Representation the Series Presents

The mere fact that very interview is happening shows progress, in terms of representation in Hollywood. Not too long ago, Diego Luna would have had his work in Andor completely dismissed. Not now, however, as he’s in the thick of the Emmy conversation, along with the show itself. So, it was not just fun, but an absolute pleasure to hop on Zoom with him a week or two ago to talk Andor. Prior to that conversation, I spoke to Andy Serkis here about the show. Today, it’s Luna’s turn.

Below, you can see my char with Luna. We talk a lot about the acting element of it all, including how this candidacy is actually history making. After all, only one man of Latin descent has ever been nominated for Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the Emmys (Jimmy Smits, for those wondering). So, if Luna were to be nominated this year, he would be the first Latin man to be nominated in that category in over two decades. Think about that for a moment. Not only is a Star Wars program in Andor competing in Drama categories, its lead has a chance to really strike a blow for representation. Even just being in play is a showcase for how we’re moving in the right direction.

Here now is my interview with Andor star Diego Luna. Enjoy:

Andor is streaming on Disney+ right now!
