Andy Serkis is a true cinematic renaissance man. Whether it’s his groundbreaking work as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings franchise, playing the title character in King Kong, operating behind the camera as a director, or now with a plum supporting turn in Andor, he’s always so compelling. Andor represents his return to the world of Star Wars, after playing Supreme Leader Snoke in both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Earlier in the week, Serkis hopped on Zoom to talk with me about this prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Today, on May the 4th (Star Wars Day, baby), I present our conversation to you all.
Below, you can see my chat with Serkis. While we assuredly talk Andor and Star Wars, I couldn’t help but mention some of his motion capture achievements, as well as his directing, too. He’s a lovely man and open to addressing many aspects of his career, so it’s a well rounded discussion. You even get a tiny tease of his upcoming Animal Farm adaptation. Still, his turn in Andor is rightly getting him Emmy buzz, so if you’ve only seen him play Gollum, you’re truly missing out. Serkis is always aces, with this being no exception.
Here now is my interview with Andor co-star Andy Serkis. Enjoy:
Season One of Andor is streaming on Disney+ right now!
