This weekend brings the release of Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. For some, it’s a big event family film. For others, it’s a continued sign of Hollywood being creatively bankrupt. The debate has raged for years, with Disney showing no signs of slowing down. As this flick hits theaters, it made sense to make the debate this week’s Awards Radar Community Question. So, here it is: what did you think of The Little Mermaid and what do you think on these Disney live-action remakes in general?
If you’re into these remakes, or even just this particular one, there’s no shame in that. Maybe you love The Little Mermaid? If so, don’t be shy to say it. This property holds a special place in my heart, after all, as the animated version was my first ever theatrical experience. That stays with a person. If you’re in that boat, let us know.
On the other hand, perhaps you think this is just robbing your childhood? Maybe it was your first film in a theater like it was for me, but that just makes you even more protective of the property? That’s a very viable stance. Hell, it could just be that these live-action remakes don’t do it for you. If live-action is no substitute for classic animation, we want to hear that, too.
The time to speak up is now. If/when you see The Little Mermaid, be sure to chime in with your thoughts on it. Additionally, we’re curious about your take on these Disney remakes in general. So, have at it…
