James Gray is set to direct Ezekiel Moss as he joins forces once again with Focus Features on the Keith Bunin script, with Likely Story producing. Gray is coming off the heels of a collaboration with Focus for his latest movie Armageddon Time (reviewed positively by Joey here out of the Telluride Film Festival). Bunin’s latest draft immediately caught the attention of Gray and Focus with both parties committed to the story as they look to continue developing the script together before pre-production.
The film is described as a “Depression-era ghost story about a young, imaginative boy living in a small town who befriends a mysterious drifter who may or may not have the supernatural ability to communicate with the dead.” The project had originally been in the works nearly a decade ago with Philip Seymour Hoffman planning to direct before his death in 2014.

Once again, I have no idea how James Gray keeps successfully raising money for his projects despite his inconsistent track record providing a return on their investments, but I am so grateful that he can still do that.
Right? It’s going to be so gratifying when he eventually has a hit.
